About the Department
Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in 2010 to accomplish the necessity of competent Mechanical engineers in the current phase of infrastructure development in the state as well as nation. To realize, the curriculum has been designed with close interaction of faculty members with the experts from the industries.
To have hands-on experience, laboratories are developed indigenously. The department owns laboratories in the area of Fluid engineering, Thermal engineering, Mechanical Measurement, Manufacturing engineering, Automobile engines, Automobile systems etc.
In favor of the overall development of students, the department follows holistic approach that incorporates career counseling, industrial tour and professional society related exercises along with academic activities. Faculty members are well qualified and acquainted with industrial practices. Industrial affiliations are established by signing MoUs (Memorandum of Understanding) with some industries in the areas like fabrication, process, automobile and manufacturing.
The department aims to be comprehensive of all segments of the society by providing educational courses of ITI, B. Tech., M. Tech. and Ph. D.
Head of Department

Message for Students
Welcome to mechanical engineering at Uka Tarsadia University. Our graduates can work in almost every technology-based industry: automotive, electric power, space and aerospace, steel and materials, bioengineering, chemical and petro-chemical, robotics and manufacturing, pulp and paper, and textiles.
Our goal for undergraduate students is to give them a high-quality engineering education that includes hands-on experience. Each of our faculty members is ready and willing to work in their research specialty with capable students on individual projects. Our faculties have two major areas of research: thermal systems and mechanical systems. Both areas strongly support the growing automotive and manufacturing economy in the state and the region. In the last 4 years, more than 50 small, medium and large scale industries have been approached for industrial visits, tour and training. As can be seen, we genuinely care about our students and their future.
There are numerous opportunities for our students to participate in student organizations. The American Society of Mechanical Engineering and the Society of Automotive Engineers' student sections have been among the most active in the country during the past few years. We strive to ensure that all our undergraduate students have a strong education with teaming and leadership skills, involvement in student activities, and the practical background of co-op and internship experience. We believe that emphasizing these areas will make our students well qualified to take leadership roles in the future.
We also deliver a short term module training programme in fabrication sector. The institute has recognized as Vocational Training Provider in 9 treads of fabrication sector by government of India as well as Gujarat. So far 450 students of nearby village have been trained in last 4 years.
Whether you are a current or former student, a potential student, or a visitor, please feel free to contact or visit us. Again, welcome to the CGPIT.
The department is divided in five Boards (Committees):
- Academic Cell
- Student Monitoring & Development Cell
- Training & Placement Cell
- Industry Liaisoning Cell
- Student Outreach Cell

Workshops/STTPs/Guest lectures/Industrial visits/Seminars
CGPIT often conducts workshops and expert lectures for students. Faculties from various Engineering Colleges are invited to impart the knowledge and to enhance the technical skills of our students in core Engineering and Science subjects. Participating students attend live lectures delivered by experienced and proficient faculty in their own college, and also attend tutorial and lab sessions conducted in the laboratory. Faculty coordinators are appointed in order to take care of the quality of education that is imparted to the new budding technocrats.
